The North East Wedding Show Welcomes The UK’s No1 Bridal Coach

The North East wedding show welcomes back Michele Paradise, the UK’s No1 bridal coach to Newcastle’s Metro Radio Arena this spring.

Taking centre stage at The Experts Theatre three times a day, Michele will share her invaluable advice to help brides feel calm, confident and beautiful on their wedding day. Michele will advise brides on everything from how to walk in fabulous shoes to perfecting your pose for photographs as well as choosing the best dress for your body shape and improving your posture with her revolutionary Posture Wand.

Commenting on the importance of brides feeling fabulous on their big day, Michele said:

“Being a bride is like being a supermodel for the day. The big difference is supermodels have guidance and years of experience. Brides don’t – and they only get one shot at it.” 

With over 20 years’ experience in the modelling industry, Michele has trained models, actors and presenters in posture and movement as well as appearing on several TV programmes such as Britain’s Next Top Model as an expert and judge.

After working in the fashion industry Michele trained to be a therapist and is now a clinical and professional hypnotherapist on Harley Street in London.  These skills enable Michele to show brides how to stay calm and make better decisions in the lead up to their wedding and on their special day.

As well as sharing her wealth of knowledge on stage at The Experts Theatre, Michele will also have her range of bridal coach products and workshops available to buy at the show, including her fantastic hen party package and ultimate bridal package.

What Lottie Loves This Week // Chocolate Wedding Cakes

This week I am loving chocolate wedding cakes! As the festive season is now in full swing it is time to let go of our healthy-eating habits and diets in favour of deliciously sinful treats made from the sweet and naughty! December is the time for treating ourselves to chocolates, cakes, rich and indulgent foods, and perhaps a few too many glasses of fizz with the family. I really do love Christmas!

In celebration of this lavish time of year I have created the above mood board, made exclusively from the most delicious-looking and decadent chocolate wedding cakes.

Not everyone is attracted to the traditional tiered cake covered in ivory icing and sugar flowers, some brides and grooms will be searching for something a little different. Winter brides and grooms in particular may be looking for something a little more indulgent and comforting as the nights get longer and the weather turns colder.

You really can’t go far wrong with a chocolate cake! It is guaranteed to impress your guests and keep everyone’s energy reserves topped us ready for ripping up the dance floor.

The Lace & Love Hearts blog: Welcome to the Featured Suppliers section of the Lace & Love Hearts blog, Rosadior. Tell me, what inspires the creation of your beautiful flower crowns and accessories?

Rosadior: I grew up in a home filled with old books, art and furniture from the arts and crafts and Art Nouveaux period. I was given children's books filled with illustrations by the likes of Arthur Rackham, Mabel Lucie Attwell, Kate Greenaway and Walter Crane and spent hours in dusty old book shops, antique fairs and junk shops with my parents. My parents took me to art galleries and introduced me to the immensely beautiful works by the Pre Raphaelites and as I grew up, I began to discover and fall in love with the art and images of the 1920's right through to the 60's.

I also have a fascination with the glorious floral images on old Victorian greetings cards and by the language and sentiment behind each flower and base a lot of my creations on these.  My adoration for flowers is not limited to fresh, I also love silk! It is true that you can’t beat fresh flowers in all their glory, they do not last. Working with silk flowers is so satisfying because your creations last forever.

L&LH: With a history in wedding and event styling, do you find that this has given you some insight into what brides are after in terms of floral accessories?

R: It certainly has. Brides will always be inspired by current trends, but essentially every bride wants something different, something special, something that is personal to them and their journey so far with their hubby to be. They may want to include aspects of people in their lives who have meant a lot to them, people they have lost and who won’t be there on their special day.

It could be that they want to include a specific flower their grandmother loved, or pearls to reflect their late mother or a blue feather to remember their granddad. Whatever it may be, she will want to create something unique to her and something that reflects her personality. 

The wedding market is saturated with choices for brides and it can be quite daunting, so I always try and make sure I listen to my clients, try and learn what they are about and make the design process a fun and happy experience for them.

L&LH: Do you create crowns and other accessories for the maid of honour, bridesmaids and flower girl as well as for the bride?

R: I have made lots of accessories for many people, for all manner of events! Be it brides hair accessories and wrist corsages, mother of the bride corsages, hair accessories, flower and feather button holes, matching bridesmaids floral hair clips, little flower girl posies and hair garlands and even Doggy Corsages, for a bride who had her pooch as her ring bearer!

One thing I would love to create would be a huge neck garland for a horse at a gyspy/boho styled wedding! How swoon-worthy would that be?!

L&LH: How long does it usually take you to create one of your stunning crowns, and how far ahead of a wedding should the bride contact you?

R: It really will depend on the complexity of the design. But I would say on average a day.

The real issue is ordering the stock in. I will often order from the US as they have more unusual and exotic flowers to choose from, but delivery times can be very lengthy. Up to three weeks in some cases. 

I would always advise a bride to really have her wedding ideas pretty much sorted, her colours chosen and most definitely her dress purchased before ordering her hair accessory or commissioning a custom piece. It’s always better to see the whole picture to ensure the hair accessory reflects all aspects of her dress and her wedding…dare I say it, “theme”.

So I would suggest a time frame of about 2/3 months prior to the wedding would be a safe bet.

L&LH: Where are you based and how do you ensure that your creations reach their destination looking perfect?

I am based in an old and very pretty little town called Haslemere. It’s located right on the border of three counties, Surrey, West Sussex and Hampshire.

I package all my items in tissue paper, sealed with a Rosadior label and posted in a padded envelope or small cardboard box dependant ion the item. Larger pieces are placed in clear plastic boxes and posted out inside a cardboard box with yet more tissue paper.

Every item is either hand delivered or sent via Royal Mail and must be signed for, so great care goes into ensuring each items reaches its destination safely.

L&LH: Do you offer a fully bespoke service alongside a range of ready-made accessories?

R: Absolutely. I would say 60% of my orders are bespoke orders. I am constantly receiving emails from clients with pictures of beautiful dresses, outfits and shoes that they would like me to design something to match the colour or style.

I would always advise customers to take pictures outside on a fine day where possible. This enables me to see the true colours and textures of the fabric.  

L&LH: How can my brides find out more about Rosadior and see some examples of your previous work?

R: First port of call would be the website. On the homepage is a link to Flickr where they will find lots of images of products, past and present.  On the SHOP page they will also find a link to a gallery of some sold orders too. I have some fabulous inspirational images on Pinterest too.

Guest Feature // Wedding Ring Trends for 2015, by Aurus

Today on the Lace & Love Hearts blog I have a real treat for my wonderful brides and grooms in the form of a guest feature by wedding, engagement and eternity ring specialists, Aurus! Regular readers of my blog will know that I recently ran a Christmas competition with Aurus to win a gorgeous Swarovski Elements pendant, and we plan to run a brand new completion in the New Year. Today’s feature is dedicated to looking back at the most popular ring trends of 2014, as well as having a peek into the future at possible ring trends for 2015’s brides and grooms.

So, over to the Aurus for their expert advice…

This year has seen a variety of wedding ring styles take the spotlight with Aurus narrowing down the top styles for 2014. Meanwhile, the New Year will bring a new array of classic and modern styles to the forefront and we aim to predict what will be the hottest trend.

Of course the classic plain band for the classic gentleman has been a popular choice for 2014 and will more than likely stay that way into 2015. However, the shift towards a subtle touch of design is gently increasing as the choice of men’s ring style’s increases.

Take for example, a plain band, with two grooves near the edges and a brushed (matt look) finish in the centre. Subtle changes to already popular styles are increasing and as men are growing in confidence to be as picky as their significant others, the opportunity to go for something more personal to their taste makes the plain bands with a twist that little bit more appealing.

What do we predict will be the growing trend for men in 2015? Two tone rings. We won’t jump to conclusions and say they will leapfrog plain bands, but we do expect an increase in demand for them. Quite simply, two tone bands look fantastic on men and is a statement of intent for their loved one. Aurus London have the largest collection of two tone bands in London so we imagine more men will find a right style with a mix of two gold colours that suits them.

For the ladies, the most sought after 2014 style would be the twist shaped diamond wedding bands. Whether it being a plain band, a few spaced out diamonds or a half row of diamonds, twisted shaped bands have been the ring of choice for brides to be and we don’t see the trend slowing down for 2015. Ultimately, most women want a stunning wedding band that matches their engagement ring and accentuates it. The awkwardness of having a straight wedding ring not being able to sit flush against an engagement ring means more brides to be look for something shaped to sit right up next to the engagement ring without compromising the shape of the ring making it a lovely feature on its own as well.

Price and quality has always been the main concern for brides and grooms, however, with so much choice now people are looking for a specialist to guide them in choosing the perfect pair of wedding rings. Love Heart Feature // The White Bulb

Today on the Lace & Love Hearts blog I am featuring one of my newest obsessions – light up letters, numbers and shapes by The White Bulb!

I first came across this gorgeous company via Twitter and I knew instantly that my brides would love their lights! After a few tweets back and forth about their gorgeous and very reasonably priced creations, we soon struck up a friendship, and a little while later I received the most beautiful floral ’L’ through the post. I was smitten and quickly contacted The White Bulb’s owner Vikki for a floral ‘&’ and a floral ‘A’ to create a light up monograph just in time for my first wedding anniversary...

Advice // Decorating Your Venue Without Assistance

If you have opted for a backyard wedding reception, or if your big day will be taking place in a venue which does not offer a team to lay out and take down your rooms, then you may need to take on the responsibility of decorating your venue yourself. Quite often, more relaxed venues such as barns, isolated eco lodges and inner city warehouse will not have an in-house team on hand to assist you, so the task of coordinating your day will fall to you.

Now, this may seem like a daunting task, but if you remain organised and relaxed and put together a team of trusted assistants, it is perfectly within your grasp to pull this off! The best way of handling this situation is to set up your rooms with your near and dear the day before your wedding so that you can concentrate completely on yourself and your bridal party during the hours leading up to your marriage. Decorating your venue on the morning of your wedding should be avoided at all costs as it will undoubtedly lead to stress and the feeling of being pushed for time.

If you simply cannot get around decorating your venue on the same day as your wedding, my advice is to ask your team of friends and family members to set everything up in the morning on your behalf. However, it is best to keep your maid of honour and mother with you while you prepare for your big day, so assemble your team from people who are not playing a key role in the day itself. It is also a good idea to appoint one person within the team as the leader so that decisions can be made without the need to bother you while you are getting ready.

Once you have your team assembled get together with them a few days before your wedding and run through your plans in detail. Draw diagrams and create a decoration spreadsheet listing every item of decoration and where it should be place. Be sure to explain everything carefully so that everyone is fully informed on what needs to go where. If your team have questions on the morning of the wedding itself, ask them to be directed towards the team leader or your maid of honour. Trust in your team and remember to have your new husband thank them during his speech.

If it is required, you should also appoint the same or a different team to deal with the take down the day after the wedding. It would not do for you and your new husband to be packing up when you should be enjoying your first day as a married couple! My advice is to charge your team with packing everything away and transporting it to your desired location, however it is best to book a professional cleaning company to take care of any leftovers once the important items have been removed.
